Global MBA Student Stories – Making an Impact in New York City
Receiving your Global MBA at Adelphi’s Manhattan Center gives you the opportunity to make an impact in New York City. From attending events like NYC Fashion Week or volunteering for causes that are close to you heart, you are able to get involved in one of the biggest financial capitals in the world. This past spring, Lisa, a GMBA student from Taiwan, sat down with one of her professors at Adelphi’s Manhattan Center to discuss ways she could get involved with volunteering in New York City. NYC is home to over 90,000 non-profits that offer thousands of volunteering opportunities. This means that there are endless chances for students to gain volunteer experience and help out the local community. After talking to her professor, Lisa knew reaching out to the Best Friend Society would be the perfect place to spend her time volunteering. The Best Friend Society is a non for profit that’s vision is to build a better world through kindness to animals. Lisa was chosen to help out at one of their biggest fundraising events of the year. Many celebrities attended the event including Amanda Seyfried, a famous American actress. During her time volunteering, Lisa learned a lot about event planning and how to run a successful fundraiser. After graduation Lisa plans on pursuing a career in Marketing. Having this experience is essential to receiving a job offer (it is also a great thing to talk about in an interview!) Way to go, Lisa!
